Representativeness of Apple Aroma Extract Obtained by Vacuum Hydrodistillation: Comparison of Two Concentration Techniques

ABSTRACT: Vacuum hydrodistillation, which is a very gentle work-up procedure, has never been used for the extraction of apple aroma. During the concentration of aroma that follows vacuum hydrodistillation, some very volatile components can be lost. The aim of this study was to compare 2 different concentration techniques, liquid-liquid extraction and solid phase extraction, to obtain an apple aroma extract as close as possible to fresh apple. After the elimination of solvent from the extract by gas chromatography, the study of the odor characteristics of solvent-free extracts was made possible. Vacuum hydrodistillation was convenient for fresh apples. [source]


Synthesis of 14-aryl-14H -dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes catalyzed by acyclic acidic ionic liquids

Some recyclable acyclic SO3H-functionalized ionic liquids have been used as novel catalysts for the synthesis of 14-aryl-14H -dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes via the one-pot condensation of ,-naphthol and aromatic aldehydes in aqueous medium. The condensation reaction was accomplished successfully with various aromatic aldehydes with good to excellent yields ranged from 86 to 96% within 5,30 min. After the reaction, the products could simply be separated from the catalysts by filtration. When separated from the reaction mixture, the catalysts could be recycled and reused for several times without noticeably reducing catalytic activity. (Un)substituted benzaldehyde (5-aryl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)hydrazones were efficiently synthesized by reactions of (un)substituted benzaldehyde thiocarbohydrazones with aromatic carboxylic acids by using silica-supported dichlorophosphate as a recoverable dehydrant under microwave irradiation. The protocol has advantages of short reaction time, high yield, easy work-up procedure and no environmental pollution. [source]


A clean synthesis of polyhydroacridine and indenoquinoline derivatives catalyzed by triethylbenzylammonium chloride in aqueous media

An efficient and convenient synthesis of benzo[a]acridines and indeno[1,2- b]benzo[f]quinolines was achieved in high yields by the reaction of N -arylidenenaphthalen-2-amine with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds catalyzed with triethylbenzylammmonium chloride (TEBAC) in aqueous media. The structures were established by spectroscopic data and further confirmed by X-ray analysis. This method provides several advantages such as neutral conditions, high yields and simple work-up procedure. In addition, water was chosen as a green and recyclable solvent. [source]

Purpose During uveitis, inflammatory cells and epitheloid cells can aggregates on the corneal endothelium forming keratic precipitates (KPs). Methods On slit lamp examination, KP's can have different forms and locations. Once they are large with a mutton fat appearance, uveitis will be classified as granulomatous. Results Granulomatous uveitis is a heterogeneous group of disease with anterior, intermediate and panuveitis. Granulomatous uveitis can be due to several infectious and non infectious causes, but masquerade syndromes and idiopathic cases must also been ruled out. Conclusion This course will first describe the main clinical characteristics of those different entities. A standard work-up procedure will then be proposed. [source]
