Stakeholder engagement and corporate social responsibility reporting: the ownership structure effect

Abstract Social disclosure, according to Ullmann's conceptual framework (1985), could be explained by stakeholder power, strategic posture and economic performance, where the power of stakeholders is a function of the resources they control that are essential to the company. The aim of this work is to test the effect that shareholder power and dispersed ownership structure have on the decision to disclose corporate social responsibility (CSR) information in the Spanish context, controlling for the rest of the dimensions. Our results allow us to affirm that this paper tests a stakeholder theory approach to analyzing corporate social disclosures and is consistent with the framework proposed, although the power of shareholders is quite limited. Trade Policies for Exporting Industries under Free Entry

This paper computes optimal export taxes and domestic production subsidies for exporting industries under free entry. We show that domestic welfare is not at maximum, as is typically believed, when the export price is a monopoly price, and the domestic price is a competitive price, because a market structure effect has to be taken into account. Furthermore, we show that the optimal tax/subsidy formulas for an oligopoly coincide with those under perfect competition, if foreign and domestic demand functions are both linear. We also discuss optimal trade policies when only one instrument is available, and we run numerical simulations to determine and compare optimal trade taxes under endogenous and exogenous market structures. Inverse Opal Structure of Nitrogen-Doped Titanium Oxide with Enhanced Visible-Light Photocatalytic Activity

Nitrogen-doped titanium oxide inverse opal structure was synthesized to combine both chemical and physical modifications on n -TiO2 by the polystyrene sphere self-assembly followed by a sol,gel process. Enhanced visible-light absorption and subsequently enhanced photodegradation efficiency were observed in this unique structure, which can be attributed to both nitrogen-doping effect and inverse opal structure effect. Our work suggests that the coupling of photonic band gap structure with photocatalytic materials is a promising approach to achieve maximum enhancement for various photocatalytic materials, especially for environmental applications and solar cell devices. Super-Hydrophobic PDMS Surface with Ultra-Low Adhesive Force,

Abstract Summary: Rough polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) surface containing micro-, submicro- and nano-composite structures was fabricated using a facile one-step laser etching method. Such surface shows a super-hydrophobic character with contact angle higher than 160° and sliding angle lower than 5°, i.e. self-cleaning effect like lotus leaf. The wettabilities of the rough PDMS surfaces can be tunable by simply controlling the size of etched microstructures. The adhesive force between etched PDMS surface and water droplet is evaluated, and the structure effect is deduced by comparing it with those own a single nano- or micro-scale structures. This super-hydrophobic PDMS surface can be widely applied to many areas such as liquid transportation without loss, and micro-pump (creating pushing-force) needless micro-fluidic devices. Etched PDMS surface containing micro-, submicro-, and nano-composite structures shows a self-cleaning effect with water CA as high as 162° and SA lower than 5°. [source]
