A New, Mild, General and Efficient Route to Aryl Ethyl Carbonates in Solvent-Free Conditions Promoted by Magnesium Perchlorate

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, Issue 19 2006
Giuseppe Bartoli
Abstract A new, general and mild method for the direct synthesis of aryl and alkyl ethyl carbonates promoted by a Lewis acid is reported. The reaction proceeds smoothly with diethyl dicarbonate in the presence of Mg(ClO4)2, a specific activator of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, and shows general applicability. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Polystyrene-Supported 1,5,7-Triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene as an Efficient and Reusable Catalyst for the Thiolysis of 1,2-Epoxides under Solvent-Free Conditions

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, Issue 5 2006
Francesco Fringuelli
Abstract Polystyrene-supported 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (PS-TBD) is an effective basic catalyst for the thiolysis of the 1,2-epoxides 1a,e by the aryl- and alkyl-substituted thiols 2A,E under solvent-free conditions while its activity is remarkably reduced in MeCN. The reactions are totally anti -diastereoselective and generally highly C-, regioselective. The corresponding hydroxy sulfides have been isolated in excellent yields and the catalyst has been easily recovered and reused with no loss in terms of efficiency and selectivity of the process. The reactions afforded corresponding iodo derivatives in good yield with high regioselectivity (Table,1). [source]

Pyrrolidine-Camphor Derivative as an Organocatalyst for Asymmetic Michael Additions of ,,,-Disubstituted Aldehydes to ,-Nitroalkenes: Construction of Quaternary Carbon-Bearing Aldehydes under Solvent-Free Conditions

ADVANCED SYNTHESIS & CATALYSIS (PREVIOUSLY: JOURNAL FUER PRAKTISCHE CHEMIE), Issue 9 2009
Chihliang Chang
Abstract A novel pyrrolidine-camphor organocatalyst 3 was designed, synthesized and proven to be an efficient catalyst for the asymmetric Michael reaction. Treatment of ,,,-disubstituted aldehydes with ,-nitroalkenes in the presence of 20,mol% organocatalyst 3 and 20,mol% benzoic acid under solvent-free conditions provided the desired Michael product possessing an all-carbon quaternary center with high chemical yields (up to 99% yield) and high levels of enantioselectivities (up to 95% ee). Water versus Solvent-Free Conditions for the Enantioselective Inter- and Intramolecular Aldol Reaction Employing L -Prolinamides and L -Prolinethioamides as Organocatalysts

ADVANCED SYNTHESIS & CATALYSIS (PREVIOUSLY: JOURNAL FUER PRAKTISCHE CHEMIE), Issue 7-8 2009
Diana Alma
Abstract Organocatalysts 1, derived from L -proline and (1S,2R)- cis -1-aminoindan-2-ol or (R)-1-aminoindane, are evaluated as promoters in the direct asymmetric aldol reaction between ketones and aromatic aldehydes in the presence of water and under solvent-free reaction conditions. L -Prolinethioamides 1c and 1d exhibited higher enantioselectivity than the corresponding prolinamides 1a and 1b in the model aldol reaction between cyclohexanone and 4-nitrobenzaldehyde in the presence of 4-nitrobenzoic acid as cocatalyst. In particular, L -prolinethioamide 1d (5,mol%), derived from L -proline and (R)-1-aminoindane, is shown as the most efficient organocatalyst studied promoting the direct aldol reaction of cycloalkyl, alkyl, and ,-functionalized ketones with aromatic aldehydes in the presence of water and under solvent-free reaction conditions employing only 2 equivalents of nucleophile. Generally, anti -aldol products are obtained in high yields and excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (up to >98/2 anti/syn, up to 98% ee). Solvent-free conditions give slightly higher dr and ee than using water as solvent. In addition, organocatalyst 1d can be easily recovered by extractive work-up and reused. Prolinethioamide 1d (5 mol%) in combination with 4-NO2C6H4CO2H (5 mol%) is also a very effective organocatalytic system for the asymmetric solvent-free intramolecular Hajos,Parrish,Eder,Sauer,Wiechert reaction with comparable or higher levels of enantioselectivity (up to 88% ee) to other reported catalysts in organic solvents.
