Selected AbstractsProvably Good 2D Shape Reconstruction from Unorganized Cross-SectionsCOMPUTER GRAPHICS FORUM, Issue 5 2008Pooran Memari Abstract This paper deals with the reconstruction of 2-dimensional geometric shapes from unorganized 1-dimensional cross-sections. We study the problem in its full generality following the approach of Boissonnat and Memari [BM07] for the analogous 3D problem. We propose a new variant of this method and provide sampling conditions to guarantee that the output of the algorithm has the same topology as the original object and is close to it (for the Hausdorff distance). Our objective is to derive a regularized Gauss,Newton method using the corresponding operator equation in which the unknown is the geometric domain. The theoretical foundation for the Gauss,Newton method is given by establishing the differentiability of the initial boundary value problem with respect to the boundary curve in the sense of a domain derivative. [source] The singular sources method for cracksMATHEMATICAL METHODS IN THE APPLIED SCIENCES, Issue 10 2007Morteza Fotouhi Abstract The singular sources method is given to detect the shape of a thin infinitely cylindrical obstacle from a knowledge of the TM-polarized scattered electromagnetic field in large distance. The basic idea is based on the singular behaviour of the scattered field of the incident point source on the cross-section of the cylinder. We assume that the scatterer is a perfect conductor which is possibly coated by a material and investigate two models with different boundary conditions. An innovative approach for data pulse replication using a polarization-maintaining resonator is used. Pulses are sampled in a highly nonlinear fiber.
