Remeshing Strategy (remeshing + strategy)
Kinds of Remeshing Strategy Selected AbstractsA comparison between new adaptive remeshing strategies based on point wise stress error estimation and energy norm error estimationINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL FOR NUMERICAL METHODS IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING, Issue 7 2002G. Bugeda Abstract Traditionally, the most commonly used mesh adaptive strategies for linear elastic problems are based on the use of an energy norm for the measurement of the error, and a mesh refinement strategy based on the equal distribution of the error between all the elements. However, little attention has been paid to the study of alternative error norms and alternative refinement strategies. This paper studies the feasibility of using alternative mesh refinement strategies based on , the use of the classical error energy norm and an optimality criterion based on the equal distribution of the density of error, , the use of alternative error norms based on measurements of the point wise error contained in the main magnitudes that control the equilibrium problem and/or the material constitutive equations such as the stresses (e.g. the Von Mises stress). The feasibility of using all the described strategies is demonstrated through the solution of a benchmark example. This example is also used for comparison between the described refinement criteria. [source] A combined rh -adaptive scheme based on domain subdivision.INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL FOR NUMERICAL METHODS IN ENGINEERING, Issue 3 2001Formulation, linear examples Abstract An adaptive scheme is proposed in which the domain is split into two subdomains. One subdomain consists of regions where the discretization is refined with an h -adaptive approach, whereas in the other subdomain node relocation or r -adaptivity is used. Through this subdivision the advantageous properties of both remeshing strategies (accuracy and low computer costs, respectively) can be exploited in greater depth. The subdivision of the domain is based on the formulation of a desired element size, which renders the approach suitable for coupling with various error assessment tools. Two-dimensional linear examples where the analytical solution is known illustrate the approach. It is shown that the combined rh -adaptive approach is superior to its components r - and h -adaptivity, in that higher accuracies can be obtained compared to a purely r -adaptive approach, while the computational costs are lower than that of a purely h -adaptive approach. As such, a more flexible formulation of adaptive strategies is given, in which the relative importance of attaining a pre-set accuracy and speeding-up the computational process can be set by the user. Muñoz Abstract Upper and lower bounds of the collapse load factor are here obtained as the optimum values of two discrete constrained optimization problems. The membership constraints for Von Mises and Mohr,Coulomb plasticity criteria are written as a set of quadratic constraints, which permits one to solve the optimization problem using specific algorithms for Second-Order Conic Program (SOCP). From the stress field at the lower bound and the velocities at the upper bound, we construct a novel error estimate based on elemental and edge contributions to the bound gap. These contributions are employed in an adaptive remeshing strategy that is able to reproduce fan-type mesh patterns around points with discontinuous surface loading. The solution of this type of problems is analysed in detail, and from this study some additional meshing strategies are also described. We particularise the resulting formulation and strategies to two-dimensional problems in plane strain and we demonstrate the effectiveness of the method with a set of numerical examples extracted from the literature. [source] Robust adaptive remeshing strategy for large deformation, transient impact simulationsINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL FOR NUMERICAL METHODS IN ENGINEERING, Issue 13 2006Tobias Erhart Abstract In this paper, an adaptive approach, with remeshing as essential ingredient, towards robust and efficient simulation techniques for fast transient, highly non-linear processes including contact is discussed. The necessity for remeshing stems from two sources: the capability to deal with large deformations that might even require topological changes of the mesh and the desire for an error driven distribution of computational resources. The overall computational approach is sketched, the adaptive remeshing strategy is presented and the crucial aspect, the choice of suitable error indicator(s), is discussed in more detail. Several numerical examples demonstrate the performance of the approach. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. [source] |
