Energy transfer from rare-earth element to Mn in (Ca,Sr)Ga2S4 compounds

PHYSICA STATUS SOLIDI (A) APPLICATIONS AND MATERIALS SCIENCE, Issue 5 2009
Toshimitsu Obonai
Abstract For realizing a red-colour emission using SrGa2S4 compounds, Mn and rare-earth-element (REE) co-doping is tried. Photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra are measured using samples so prepared. As a result, enhancement of the Mn red emission is observed. Considering the 4f and 5d levels of REE in the host material, it is expected that the energy transfer from REE to Mn is caused by the weak coupling between the d levels of REE and Mn. Moreover, in the Ce co-doping case, another process is expected as a resonant energy transfer between the 4f,5d transition of Ce3+ and a certain transition of Mn2+. To specify the Mn2+ levels related to the resonant transfer, PL spectra of a Mn only doped CaGa2S4 single crystal and an undoped one are measured at low temperatures, though we could not find emission expected to be related to the resonant transfer. Role of excitons in the excitation of deep-level emission in ZnO crystals

PHYSICA STATUS SOLIDI (C) - CURRENT TOPICS IN SOLID STATE PHYSICS, Issue 6 2010
V. I. Kushnirenko
Abstract In undoped ZnO crystals, photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra of deep-level green and orange PL bands as well as photocurrent (PC) spectra were measured at 77 and 290 K. Some PLE and PC peaks whose energy positions coincided with that of free exciton and its excited states were observed, the intensity of PL and PC excited in these peaks being higher than under excitation by band-to-band light. At the same time, a sharp minimum was found in PLE and PC spectra at the position of donor-bound exciton. Obtained results were accounted for by the interaction of excitons with lattice defects. A number of longer wavelength PLE and PC peaks whose energy positions coincided in fact with that of the first, second and third phonon replicas of free exciton were also observed. The origin of these peaks is discussed. (© 2010 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim) [source]

Photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy of Er3+ ions in cubic GaN:Er

PHYSICA STATUS SOLIDI (C) - CURRENT TOPICS IN SOLID STATE PHYSICS, Issue 7 2007
V. Glukhanyuk
Abstract In this paper we report the results of study of cubic GaN implanted with erbium by means of photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectroscopy. Only one optical emission center is observable at resonant excitation of Er3+ ions to 4I9/2 state. The positions of erbium energy levels were determined from the results of PL and PLE measurements for 4I15/2 and 4I9/2 state. Symmetry of energy levels has been assign according to group theory. Optical properties of semiconductors with the Coulomb potential fluctuation: case of co-doped ZnSe:(N,Cl)

Abstract We discuss properties of cw and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) as well as photoluminescence excitation (PLE) from co-doped ZnSe:Cl,N samples. These samples are characterized by the presence of the potential fluctuations due to charged donors and acceptors. We compare intensity dependent cw PL with the theory and find a good agreement. We also find that the material parameters obtained from cw PL and time-resolved PL agree well. (© 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim) [source]
