Trends in calculation of point and extended defects in wide-gap solids: periodic models of aperiodic systems

PHYSICA STATUS SOLIDI (A) APPLICATIONS AND MATERIALS SCIENCE, Issue 2 2005
R. A. Evarestov
Abstract The periodic models of aperiodic systems are described. For the point defects supercell and cyclic cluster models are compared for the oxygen vacancy in the corundum Al2O3. The single and repeated slab models of (001) surface of MgO crystal are compared using the results of LCAO Hartree,Fock and DFT calculations. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Influence of post-radiation deformation on TSL and absorption spectra of irradiated MgO crystals

PHYSICA STATUS SOLIDI (A) APPLICATIONS AND MATERIALS SCIENCE, Issue 10 2008
V. Kvatchadze
Abstract Thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) and optical and paramagnetic absorption spectra of MgO and MgO:V2+ have been investigated after quasi-elastic and plastic deformations. Splitting of the low-temperature peak (,450 K) in TSL curves caused by the deformation in both nominally pure and impure crystals is explained by the formation of an excess of vacancies. Dependence of long-lived defect creation on excitation density in MgO single crystals

PHYSICA STATUS SOLIDI (C) - CURRENT TOPICS IN SOLID STATE PHYSICS, Issue 3 2007
Aleksandr Lushchik
Abstract The processes of the creation, stabilization and annealing of anion Frenkel defects have been investigated in MgO and MgO:Be single crystals irradiated by , particles, uranium swift ions or fast neutrons at 300 K and also additionally irradiated by 5 keV electrons at 6 K. Neutral oxygen interstitials undergo stabilization due to their association with the holes localized near Be2+ ions or near cation vacancies. The peculiarities of the processes of nonimpact creation and stabilization of point defects under conditions of a high density of electronic excitations formed in the tracks of swift heavy ions have been considered by the example of MgO crystals, where the creation energy of a pair of long-lived Frenkel defects exceeds the energy gap, EFD > Eg. Formation of complex defects in MncMg1,cO and NicMg1,cO single solid solution

PHYSICA STATUS SOLIDI (C) - CURRENT TOPICS IN SOLID STATE PHYSICS, Issue 1 2005
V. Skvortsova
Abstract The results of investigation of the fast neutron irradiation and thermal treatment on absorption spectra of single solid solution of MncMg1,cO, NicMg1,cO and MgO crystals are presented. It is shown that at impurity ion concentration larger than 0.1 mass.% a probability of formation of aggregate centers consisting of more than three F+ - or F-centers is small. After thermal treatment of MncMg1,cO and NicMg1,cO single solid solution irradiated by fast neutrons additional wide bands are observed. We assume that these additional bands belong to complex centers of Mn3+ -VMg and Ni3+ -VMg. The mechanisms of bands formation are discussed. (© 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
