Selected AbstractsDistribution, abundance, and conservation of Vinaceous Amazons (Amazona vinacea) in Argentina and ParaguayJOURNAL OF FIELD ORNITHOLOGY, Issue 1 2007Kristina Cockle ABSTRACT Vinaceous Amazons (Amazona vinacea) are endemic to the Atlantic forest of southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and the province of Misiones in Argentina. We searched for Vinaceous Amazons throughout the western part of its range in Argentina and Paraguay during 1639 days of fieldwork from 1997 to 2006. These parrots have disappeared from most areas where they were historically recorded in these countries, and are now limited to a few sites in northeastern Paraguay and central Misiones (Argentina). We estimate the minimum remaining populations at 220 individuals in Paraguay and 203 individuals in Argentina. Important sites for the species are (1) the farming area from San Pedro to Tobuna (Misiones, Argentina) and (2) the Itaipú reserves complex and Reserva Natural Privada Itabó (Paraguay). In our surveys, Vinaceous Amazons were absent from the largest tracts of forest in Misiones, and were most often observed feeding, roosting, and nesting in small forest remnants and in agricultural areas that included forest fragments and isolated trees. Threats to amazons in these areas include nest poaching, forest clearing, and being shot as a crop pest. We confirmed 40 Vinaceous Amazons kept as pets in 35 homes between San Pedro and Tobuna. Environmental education and law enforcement are urgently needed to reduce threats in populated areas, and subsistence farmers need technical and logistical support to slow or stop the conversion of forest into cropland. Finally, additional study is needed to determine this amazon's habitat preferences, nest site requirements, and demography in different habitats. SINOPSIS El loro vinoso (Amazona vinacea) es endémico del bosque Atlántico del sudeste de Brasil, este de Paraguay, y la provincia de Misiones en Argentina. Buscamos esta especie durante 1639 días de trabajo de campo de 1997 a 2006, a lo largo de la porción oeste de su distribución, en Argentina y Paraguay. A. vinacea ha desaparecido de la mayor parte de las áreas donde ha sido registrada históricamente en estos paises, y permanece sólo en algunos pocos sitios del noroeste de Paraguay y del centro de Misiones (Argentina). Estimamos el tamańo mínimo de las poblaciones remanentes en 220 individuos en Paraguay y 203 individuos en Argentina. Los sitios importantes para la especie son: (1) la zona rural de San Pedro a Tobuna (Misiones, Argentina) y (2) el complejo de reservas de Itaipú y la Reserva Natural Privada Itabó (Paraguay). A. vinacea no fue encontrada en los tractos más grandes de bosque durante nuestras prospecciones en Misiones. Mayormente fue observada alimentándose, durmiendo y nidificando en pequeńos remanentes boscosos y en hábitats antropogénicos. Para reducir las amenazas se requieren urgentemente educación ambiental y fortalecimiento legal en las áreas pobladas. Es necesario proveer de apoyo técnico y logístico a los agricultores de subsistencia para reducir la conversión de bosques a cultivos. Finalmente, estudios futuros deberían tratar la preferencia de hábitat del loro, sus requerimientos de nidificación, y su demografía en distintos hábitats. [source] Inhibition of Notch signaling biases rat thymocyte development towards the NK cell lineageEUROPEAN JOURNAL OF IMMUNOLOGY, Issue 5 2004Jens van den Brandt Abstract Notch receptors are involved in directing the choice between alternative cell fates in developmental scenarios such as thymopoiesis. By pharmacological interference in rat fetal thymus organ culture we show that inhibition of Notch signaling arrests T,cell development at an early double-negative stage and is accompanied by a dramatic increase in the number of NK cells. These cells show an activated phenotype, lack recombination of the TCR, gene locus and express perforin. Similarly, in thymic lobes reconstituted with fetal liver cells, progenitors predominantly develop into NK cells both after pharmacological interference of Notch and after treatment with a recombinant rat Notch1/Fc chimera. Collectively, this identifies the lineage decision of NK/T precursor cells as an important site of Notch action in rat thymocytes. Radley Abstract Changes in dendritic spine number and shape are believed to reflect structural plasticity consequent to learning. Previous studies have strongly suggested that the dorsal subnucleus of the lateral amygdala is an important site of physiological plasticity in Pavlovian fear conditioning. In the present study, we examined the effect of auditory fear conditioning on dendritic spine numbers in the dorsal subnucleus of the lateral amygdala using an immunolabelling procedure to visualize the spine-associated protein spinophilin. Associatively conditioned rats that received paired tone and shock presentations had 35% more total spinophilin-immunoreactive spines than animals that had unpaired stimulation, consistent with the idea that changes in the number of dendritic spines occur during learning and account in part for memory. According to Michael Power, this may signify a new rationality of governance characterized by control of controls, which affects practices not by direct intervention, but through the processes by which practices are made auditable. The paper addresses this thesis by exploring the construction of a Danish standard for electronic patient records. It is shown that making healthcare auditable activates deep tensions between programs of clinical practice, quality control, evidence based medicine, and casemix funding, resulting in an ambiguous and unstable standard. During this process, however, particular notions of patients, diseases, and diagnoses emerge as undisputed innovations, which may come to survive the subsequent career of the standard. The paper discusses the performative effects of these innovations and argues that information infrastructure has become an analytically important site for exploring the substantial effects of new rationalities of governance in healthcare. [source] The Democratic Legitimacy of the European Union Committee SystemGOVERNANCE, Issue 2 2002Mark Rhinard This article investigates both the operation and the democratic legitimacy of the European Union committee system. This vast but rarely studied system is an important site of European governance, exercising an increasing amount of policy responsibility while also providing the essential arenas necessary for supranational problem solving. Despite their contribution to the success of the "European project," committees are increasingly coming under attack, notably for their lack of democratic credentials. The article employs original empirical research based on interviews and internal documentary evidence to answer a timely question: does the EU committee system strike an appropriate balance between the values of system effectiveness and democratic legitimacy? Following the application of a set of democratic principles to EU committees, the article finds that a poor balance has been struck between effectiveness and democracy. The article concludes with some operational suggestions for improving this balance in the short-to-medium term. Thomas Abstract Background Signal hyperintensities on magnetic resonance imaging in late-life depression are associated with treatment resistance and poor outcome. These lesions are probably vascular in origin and proposed sites for vascular damage include the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). Methods We therefore examined white matter in these areas for microvascular disease and evidence of ischemia using intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1). We obtained postmortem tissue from elderly depressed (n,=,20) and control (n,=,20) subjects and blindly rated microvascular disease and ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 amount using quantitative image analysis in sections of the DLPFC, ACC and occipital cortex (OC; control area). Results We found a significant increase in ICAM-1 in the deep white matter of the DLPFC in the depressed group (p,=,0.01) and a trend towards an increase for VCAM-1 (p,=,0.10). In the gyral white matter there was a trend towards significance for both molecules (p,=,0.07 and 0.10). No differences were found in the ACC or OC or for microvascular disease in any area. Conclusions These findings are consistent with white matter ischemia in the DLPFC and lend support to the ,vascular depression' hypothesis. They implicate the DLPFC as an important site in the pathogenesis of late-life depression and have major implications for the understanding and management of late-life depression and raise the possibility of novel treatments being introduced in the future. Dayne Mayfield Ethanol alters a variety of properties of brain dopaminergic neurons including firing rate, synthesis, release, and metabolism. Recent studies suggest that ethanol's action on central dopamine systems may also involve modulation of dopamine transporter (DAT) activity. The human DAT was expressed in Xenopus oocytes to examine directly the effects of ethanol on transporter function. [3H]Dopamine (100 nm) accumulation into DAT-expressing oocytes increased significantly in response to ethanol (10 min; 10,100 mm). In two-electrode voltage-clamp experiments, DAT-mediated currents were also enhanced significantly by ethanol (10,100 mm). The magnitude of the ethanol-induced potentiation of DAT function depended on ethanol exposure time and substrate concentration. Cell surface DAT binding ([3H]WIN 35,428; 4 nm) also increased as a function of ethanol exposure time. Thus, the increase in dopamine uptake was associated with a parallel increase in the number of DAT molecules expressed at the cell surface. These experiments demonstrate that DAT-mediated substrate translocation and substrate-associated ionic conductances are sensitive to intoxicating concentrations of ethanol and suggest that DAT may represent an important site of action for ethanol's effects on central dopaminergic transmission. A potential mechanism by which ethanol acts to enhance DAT function may involve regulation of DAT expression on the cell surface. Baars Background:, The spinal cord is an important site of anaesthetic action because it mediates surgical immobility. During anaesthesia with volatile anaesthetics, it has been shown that the suppression of the spinal H-reflex correlates with surgical immobility. To evaluate whether the H-reflex could also be a possible candidate for monitoring immobility during propofol anaesthesia, this study assessed the concentration-dependent suppression of the H-reflex by propofol. To discriminate different effect sites, the individual concentration response-curves and the t1/2ke0 of the H-reflex have been compared with those of two EEG parameters. Methods:, In 18 patients, anaesthesia was induced and maintained with propofol infused using a target-controlled infusion pump at stepwise increasing and decreasing plasma concentrations between 0.5 and 4.5 mg/l. The H-reflex of the soleus muscle was recorded at a frequency of 0.1 Hz. Calculated propofol concentrations and H-reflex amplitude were analysed in terms of a pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PKPD) model with a sigmoid concentration-response function. Results:, For slowly increasing propofol concentrations, computer fits of the PKPD model for H-reflex suppression by propofol yielded the following median parameters: EC50 1.1 (0.8,1.7) mg/l, slope parameter 2.4 (2.0,3.7), and a t1/2ke0 of 6.7 (2.8,7.5, 25,75% quantiles) min. For the bispectral index, the t1/2ke0 was 2.2 (1.8,3.1) min and for the spectral edge frequency at the 95th percentile of the power spectrum 2.8 (1.9,3.2) min. Conclusions:, Propofol, unlike sevoflurane, suppresses the spinal H-reflex at concentrations far lower than the C50 skin incision. The differences in t1/2ke0 -values indicate the presence of different effect compartments for effects on the H-reflex and the EEG. [source] Ostracoda (Crustacea) from the Turkish Ramsar site of Lake Ku, (Manyas Gölü)AQUATIC CONSERVATION: MARINE AND FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEMS, Issue 3 2001Selçuk Alt, nsaçl Abstract 1.,Lake Ku, (Manyas Gölü), an important bird conservation area, was sampled in the summer, autumn, winter and spring of 1997, and the seasonal and spatial distributions of ostracods were investigated. Many of the taxa collected are useful indicator species for monitoring conditions within lake basins. 2.,The findings suggest that the L. Ku, ecosystem is already substantially degraded. Pollution, coupled with extensive water abstraction for irrigation, have damaged the value of the lake, both commercially (as an inland waters fishery), and as an important site for wetland bird conservation. 3.,This work shows that ostracod faunal analysis has value in the study of such sites, particularly where more formal physical, chemical and biological monitoring methods are inappropriate or unavailable. [source] Preliminary Provenance Research on Chinese Neolithic Pottery: Huating (Xinyi County) and Three Yellow River Valley SitesARCHAEOMETRY, Issue 1 2001Anwu Xu Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) was applied to sherds from the important site of Huating and, for comparison, several Neolithic sites in the valley of the Yellow River. We hoped to compare the compositions of two stylistically different ceramics found at Huating, and to evaluate the degree of compositional clustering and inter-site resolution that could be expected in an area that is noted for its extensive, and possibly very homogeneous, loess deposits. In addition, pottery sherds from Huating have been examined by microscopic petrography. All of these results will provide needed input in the planning of research towards the formation of a Neolithic/Shang Dynasty ceramic database for future use in archaeological research in China. However, common features of their development suggest that they could have a shared evolutionary origin. In a recent paper, Niwa et al.1 show that three Drosophila adult sensory organs all rely on the spatial signals Decapentaplegic and Wingless to specify their position, and the temporal signal ecdysone to initiate their development. The proneural gene atonal is an important site for integration of these regulatory inputs. These results suggest the existence of a primitive sensory organ precursor, which would differentiate according to the identity of its segment of origin. The authors argue that the eyeless gene controls eye disc identity, indirectly producing an eye from the sensory organ precursor within this disc. [source] Bicuculline, pentobarbital and diazepam modulate spontaneous GABAA channels in rat hippocampal neuronsBRITISH JOURNAL OF PHARMACOLOGY, Issue 4 2000Bryndis Birnir Spontaneously opening, chloride-selective channels that showed outward rectification were recorded in ripped-off patches from rat cultured hippocampal neurons and in cell-attached patches from rat hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons in slices. In both preparations, channels had multiple conductance states and the most common single-channel conductance varied. In the outside-out patches it ranged from 12 to 70 pS (Vp=40 mV) whereas in the cell-attached patches it ranged from 56 to 85 pS (,Vp=80 mV). Application of GABA to a patch showing spontaneous channel activity evoked a rapid, synchronous activation of channels. During prolonged exposure to either 5 or 100 ,M GABA, the open probability of channels decreased. Application of GABA appeared to have no immediate effect on single-channel conductance. Exposure of the patches to 100 ,M bicuculline caused a gradual decrease on the single-channel conductance of the spontaneous channels. The time for complete inhibition to take place was slower in the outside-out than in the cell-attached patches. Application of 100 ,M pentobarbital or 1 ,M diazepam caused 2,4 fold increase in the maximum channel conductance of low conductance (<40 pS) spontaneously active channels. The observation of spontaneously opening GABAA channels in cell-attached patches on neurons in slices suggests that they may have a role in neurons in vivo and could be an important site of action for some drugs such as benzodiazepines, barbiturates and general anaesthetics. McMullen Summary Lymphoid nodules are a normal component of the mucosa of the rectum, but little is known about their function and whether they contribute to the host immune response in malignancy. In rectal cancer specimens from patients with local (n = 18), regional (n = 12) and distant (n = 10) disease, we quantified T cell (CD3, CD25) and dendritic cell (CD1a, CD83) levels at the tumour margin as well as within tumour-associated lymphoid nodules. In normal tissue CD3+, but not CD25+, T cells are concentrated at high levels within lymphoid nodules, with significantly fewer cells found in surrounding normal mucosa (P = 0·001). Mature (CD83), but not immature (CD1a), dendritic cells in normal tissue are also found clustered almost exclusively within lymphoid nodules (P = < 0·0001). In rectal tumours, both CD3+ T cells (P = 0·004) and CD83+ dendritic cells (P = 0·0001) are also localized preferentially within tumour-associated lymphoid nodules. However, when comparing tumour specimens to normal rectal tissue, the average density of CD3+ T cells (P = 0·0005) and CD83+ dendritic cells (P = 0·0006) in tumour-associated lymphoid nodules was significantly less than that seen in lymphoid nodules in normal mucosa. Interestingly, regardless of where quantified, T cell and dendritic cell levels did not depend upon the stage of disease. Increased CD3+ T cell infiltration of tumour-associated lymphoid nodules predicted improved survival, independent of stage (P = 0·05). Other T cell (CD25) markers and different levels of CD1a+ or CD83+ dendritic cells did not predict survival. Tumour-associated lymphoid nodules, enriched in dendritic cells and T cells, may be an important site for antigen presentation and increased T cell infiltration may be a marker for improved survival. [source] Do dams and levees impact nitrogen cycling?GLOBAL CHANGE BIOLOGY, Issue 8 2005Simulating the effects of flood alterations on floodplain denitrification Abstract A fundamental challenge in understanding the global nitrogen cycle is the quantification of denitrification on large heterogeneous landscapes. Because floodplains are important sites for denitrification and nitrogen retention, we developed a generalized floodplain biogeochemical model to determine whether dams and flood-control levees affect floodplain denitrification by altering floodplain inundation. We combined a statistical model of floodplain topography with a model of hydrology and nitrogen biogeochemistry to simulate floods of different magnitude. The model predicted substantial decreases in NO3 -N processing on floodplains whose overbank floods have been altered by levees and upstream dams. Our simulations suggest that dams may reduce nitrate processing more than setback levees. Levees increased areal floodplain denitrification rates, but this effect was offset by a reduction in the area inundated. Scenarios that involved a levee also resulted in more variability in N processing among replicate floodplains. Nitrate loss occurred rapidly and completely in our model floodplains. As a consequence, total flood volume and the initial mass of nitrate reaching a floodplain may provide reasonable estimates of total N processing on floodplains during floods. This finding suggests that quantifying the impact of dams and levees on floodplain denitrification may be possible using recent advances in remote sensing of floodplain topography and flood stage. Furthermore, when considering flooding over the long-term, the cumulative N processed by frequent smaller floods was estimated to be quite large relative to that processed by larger, less frequent floods. Our results suggest that floodplain denitrification may be greatly influenced by the pervasive anthropogenic flood-control measures that currently exist on most majors river floodplains throughout the world, and may have the potential to be impacted by future changes in flood probabilities that will likely occur as a result of climate shifts. [source] Isotropic resolution diffusion tensor imaging with whole brain acquisition in a clinically acceptable timeHUMAN BRAIN MAPPING, Issue 4 2002Derek Kenton Jones Abstract Our objective was to develop a diffusion tensor MR imaging pulse sequence that allows whole brain coverage with isotropic resolution within a clinically acceptable time. A single-shot, cardiac-gated MR pulse sequence, optimized for measuring the diffusion tensor in human brain, was developed to provide whole-brain coverage with isotropic (2.5 × 2.5 × 2.5 mm) spatial resolution, within a total imaging time of approximately 15 min. The diffusion tensor was computed for each voxel in the whole volume and the data processed for visualization in three orthogonal planes. Anisotropy data were further visualized using a maximum-intensity projection algorithm. Finally, reconstruction of fiber-tract trajectories i.e., ,tractography' was performed. Images obtained with this pulse sequence provide clear delineation of individual white matter tracts, from the most superior cortical regions down to the cerebellum and brain stem. Because the data are acquired with isotropic resolution, they can be reformatted in any plane and the sequence can therefore be used, in general, for macroscopic neurological or psychiatric neuroimaging investigations. The 3D visualization afforded by maximum intensity projection imaging and tractography provided easy visualization of individual white matter fasciculi, which may be important sites of neuropathological degeneration or abnormal brain development. This study has shown that it is possible to obtain robust, high quality diffusion tensor MR data at 1.5 Tesla with isotropic resolution (2.5 × 2.5 × 2.5 mm) from the whole brain within a sufficiently short imaging time that it may be incorporated into clinical imaging protocols. The ovaries are important sites of testosterone production in the peri- and postmenopausal women, but the contribution of testosterone pro-hormones from the adrenal glands falls precipitously to the extent where the ovaries cannot correct the deficit. This results in a net decline in circulating testosterone levels. Aims., This paper gives an overview of this interesting subject area. Researchers have cogitated on the relationship between the physical effects of the menopause and the observed declines in testosterone levels, but it is now much clearer that falling testosterone levels cannot explain all of these changes. Main Outcome Measures., The cessation of follicular functioning results in a steep decline in the production of estrogens. This modulation is responsible for the physical manifestations of the menopause,hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, bleeding problems, local urogenital problems, vaginal changes, etc. Methods., A review of the pertinent literature was conducted to investigate hormonal changes around the menopause. A précis of the salient information is presented here. Results., Although the most obvious and well-known effects of the menopause are due to the decline of estrogen levels, the effects of falling testosterone levels are subtle, but by no means less significant. Reductions in sexual motivation, sexual arousal, vaginal lubrication, etc. are all associated with plummeting androgen levels. Conclusions., Today, several options exist for the treatment of the endocrinological changes associated with the menopause. Estrogen deficiency can be corrected with hormone replacement therapy and topical preparations for the genitalia. [source] Distribution and underground habitats of cave-dwelling bats in ChinaANIMAL CONSERVATION, Issue 4 2007H. Niu Abstract To understand the distribution and relative abundance of cave-dwelling bats and to identify those sites that would be important for conservation of bat species, 25 underground sites that had not been previously surveyed were investigated in this 3-year study (from December 2003 to April 2006) in Funiu Mountain of Henan province, China. Approximately 80 000 bats were recorded, representing 12 species. The most abundant species were Rhinolophus affinis, Miniopterus schreibersi and Hipposideros pratti. The roosts were evaluated for their conservation importance. The most important sites in the area are Yunhua and Nanzhao caves, which serve as hibernaculums and nursery roosts to c. 13 740 and 11 803 bats, respectively, representing seven species. By means of cluster and correspondence analysis, the distribution of bat species was different between the two sides of the mountain and was highly dependent on the size of the cave. The underground sites in the south region hosted c. 80% of the total bats, representing 11 species. The sites in the north region hosted 20% of the total bats, representing seven species. Presently, none of the caves in the region has adequate protection and some bat populations are under serious threat. Many large caves that contained large bat populations and several species of concern had been developed as tourist sites, and so some advice on protecting the most important local habitats was sought based on the assessment of the conservation status of underground sites. This paper presents basic data concerning the distribution of cave-dwelling bats and the patterns of cave use on Funiu Mountain. The data will help local governments and policy-makers develop suitable strategies to promote local tourisms while protecting important habitats of animal species. [source] Reversing spontaneous succession to protect high-value vegetation: Assessment of two Scottish mires using rapid survey techniquesAPPLIED VEGETATION SCIENCE, Issue 1 2001Andrew R.G. Large Abstract. Despite existing management agreements, significant change has occurred on Carnwath Moss and Coladoir Bog, two mire complexes in central and western Scotland. Spontaneous succession has accelerated, resulting in extensive degradation of the mire vegetation on both sites and, in particular, widespread expansion of Calluna vulgaris - and Molinia caerulea -dominated vegetation types. Vegetation surveys across strong gradients of change were conducted with the aim of quantifying the extent of early (desirable) and late (undesirable) successional vegetation on both sites. For each site multivariate analyses of the vegetation data were carried out using TWINSPAN, which clearly differentiated higher quality and degraded surfaces. In management terms percentage Sphagnum cover can act as a useful proxy measure of water level and shrub layer height can also serve as a useful indicator of the degree of degradation. A broad-based, five class condition continuum was developed for the Carnwath Moss site. While such an assessment scheme is a somewhat arbitrary means of allocating mesotope areas to specific condition classes, it is rapid to apply and simple enough to be applied by a range of users. A drawback is that the methodology is data-light in temporal terms and is not a long-term substitute for properly-funded monitoring programmes for important sites. For both mires, recommendations are made for management with the main emphasis being on maintaining water tables at appropriate levels to maximise the floristic diversity of active mires. Maltchik Abstract 1.Intermittent streams in the semi-arid region of Brazil are distinctive landscape features existing as dry watercourses for most of the time. It has been recognized that the extremes of flooding and total absence of water flow are the principal hydrological characteristics of rivers and streams in this region. This is a consequence of complex climatic patterns that lead to an irregular distribution of the small amount of rainfall and low thermal amplitude. The latter is the main climatic difference between the Brazilian semi-arid region and other semi-arid lands. 2.The expansion of water resource development has been a threat to the natural flow regime and the ecological integrity of rivers and streams in semi-arid Brazil. Efforts to manage and conserve the natural flow regime of these systems are hampered by limited scientific information on the ecological processes driving their flora and fauna and the responses of biota to the high natural variability in flow regime. 3.The most important issues in the conservation of streams in semi-arid Brazil are the need for their recognition as important sites of biodiversity and that this diversity is closely associated with natural patterns of flow and the hydrological disturbances. [source] Changes in zinc uptake in response to ascorbic acid and folic acid in rat liver slices under normal and oxidative stress conditionsBIOFACTORS, Issue 1 2007R.S. Tupe Abstract Zinc plays a dual role, as an integral part of metabolic machinery and in defense against reactive oxygen species. Hepatocytes are important sites for zinc metabolism for synthesis of zinc metalloproteins and maintaining its homeostasis. However, the factors influencing post absorptive zinc metabolism under normal and oxidative stress (OS) conditions are not well understood. Using rat liver slices, we conducted a series of four in vitro zinc uptake experiments to study influence of ascorbic acid and folic acid in normal and oxidative stress conditions with Zn concentrations representing deficient to excess states (7.7,30.7 millimole/L). Zinc uptakes under OS at these four zinc levels were lower than the normal conditions. Folic acid showed significant inhibitory effect on zinc uptake under both normal and OS conditions in a dose response manner. Nevertheless, dose response of ascorbic acid at four zinc levels indicated its marked enhancing effect under OS condition. Differences in zinc uptake trend lines between the normal and OS conditions for interaction of both the vitamins narrowed down as the zinc levels increased. Our results suggest that folic acid causes inhibitory effect, while ascorbic acid may be protective in OS with reference to zinc uptake. [source] |
