High Durability (high + durability)
Selected AbstractsHierarchical Porous, Self-Supporting La- and F-Codoped TiO2 with High Durability for Continuous-Flow Visible Light PhotocatalysisJOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CERAMIC SOCIETY, Issue 5 2010Guangxiu Cao Hierarchical porous, self-supporting La- and F-codoped TiO2 with high durability was prepared using a simple polymer template gel. The TiO2 foams were in the anatase phase, with a specific surface area of up to 88 m2/g, and showed a network-like structure containing meso-/macropores. The macropores had a diameter of ca. 300 nm and a wall thickness of 100,300 nm, while the mesopores were narrowly distributed with a mean diameter of around 5.4 nm. The UV-vis diffuse reflection spectra of the sample showed that the presence of intraband gap states was likely responsible for its absorption of visible light. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that La2O3 and O,Ti,F bonds were formed. The sample showed an excellent visible light photocatalytic activity and a high durability of photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue solution. An actuator strip, fabricated by sandwiching an ionic-liquid-gel electrolyte layer with the nanotubes sheets obtained exhibits a large deformation in quick response (4,mm per 0.05 s) to low applied voltages, and a high durability upon 10 000 times continuous operations. [source] Highly Durable Ceramic Thermometer for Molten MetalINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF APPLIED CERAMIC TECHNOLOGY, Issue 1 2006Hideki Kita It was shown that a silicon nitride (SN)/boron nitride (BN) composite laminate provides excellent thermal shock resistance, and to improve the corrosion resistance of the SN pipe against molten metals, the Mo/ZrB2 film was effective for molten cast iron. The authors have developed a thermocouple that yields high durability and good response using an SN/BN composite laminate as an external sleeve and film-coated SN protection tube. According to the results of repeated temperature measurement tests for molten metals, it was demonstrated that the thermometer thus designed had high durability, e.g., 360 times measurement to life was achieved for molten cast iron. We propose side-firing optics for hollow optical fibers for laser endoscopic applications mainly in oto-rhino-laryngology and urology. Study Design/Materials and Methods To produce a circular beam, cone-shaped caps are designed and caps with slanted end are proposed for producing a spot beam in side direction. Both types of caps are fabricated by fusing and polished Pyrex and silica glass tubes. Results For the both of the cone-shaped and slanted-end caps effectively deflect laser beam as designed and these caps show high durability for Er:YAG laser light with pulse energy higher than 100 mJ. Conclusions By choosing the proper shape of the cap ends, these caps deflect an input laser beam to a preferred direction at low insertion losses. By using these side-firing optics, one can easily irradiate the inside of tubular organs. Lasers Surg. Med. 38:792,797, 2006. © 2006 Wiley-Liss, Inc. [source] |
