Favorable Properties (favorable + property)
Selected AbstractsWeb Discovery and Filtering Based on Textual Relevance Feedback LearningCOMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE, Issue 2 2003Wai Lam We develop a new approach for Web information discovery and filtering. Our system, called WID, allows the user to specify long-term information needs by means of various topic profile specifications. An entire example page or an index page can be accepted as input for the discovery. It makes use of a simulated annealing algorithm to automatically explore new Web pages. Simulated annealing algorithms possess some favorable properties to fulfill the discovery objectives. Information retrieval techniques are adopted to evaluate the content-based relevance of each page being explored. The hyperlink information, in addition to the textual context, is considered in the relevance score evaluation of a Web page. WID allows users to provide three forms of the relevance feedback model, namely, the positive page feedback, the negative page feedback, and the positive keyword feedback. The system is domain independent and does not rely on any prior knowledge or information about the Web content. Extensive experiments have been conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the discovery performance achieved by WID. [source] Sub-Voxel Topology Control for Level-Set SurfacesCOMPUTER GRAPHICS FORUM, Issue 3 2003Stephan Bischoff Active contour models are an efficient, accurate, and robust tool for the segmentation of 2D and 3D image data. In particular, geometric deformable models (GDM) that represent an active contour as the level set of an implicitfunction have proven to be very effective. GDMs, however, do not provide any topology control, i.e. contours maymerge or split arbitrarily and hence change the genus of the reconstructed surface. This behavior is inadequate insettings like the segmentation of organic tissue or other objects whose genus is known beforehand. In this paperwe describe a novel method to overcome this limitation while still preserving the favorable properties of the GDMsetup. We achieve this by adding (sparse) topological information to the volume representation at locations whereit is necessary to locally resolve topological ambiguities. Since the sparse topology information is attached to theedges of the voxel grid, we can reconstruct the interfaces where the deformable surface touches itself at sub-voxelaccuracy. We also demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of our method. Funct.ADVANCED FUNCTIONAL MATERIALS, Issue 12 2009Mater. Composites formed through embedding of high-concentration boron nitride nanotubes in polymers are reported by C. Y. Zhi et al. on page 1857. The composites possess high thermal conductivity, high break-over voltage, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and other favorable properties. These polymeric composites are promising highly thermoconductive electrically insulating materials for a range of applications. For this, the phosphoramidites 2b,2g containing 7-substituted 7-deaza-2,-deoxyinosine analogues 1b,1g were synthesized (Scheme,2). Hybridization experiments with modified oligonucleotides demonstrate that all 2,-deoxyinosine derivatives show ambiguous base pairing, as 2,-deoxyinosine does. The duplex stability decreases in the order Cd>Ad>Td>Gd when 2b,2g pair with these canonical nucleosides (Table,6). The self-complementary duplexes 5,-d(F7c7I-C)6, d(Br7c7I-C)6, and d(I7c7I-C)6 are more stable than the parent duplex d(c7I-C)6 (Table,7). An oligonucleotide containing the octa-1,7-diyn-1-yl derivative 1g, i.e., 27, was functionalized with the nonfluorescent 3-azido-7-hydroxycoumarin (28) by the Huisgen,Sharpless,Meldal cycloaddition ,click' reaction to afford the highly fluorescent oligonucleotide conjugate 29 (Scheme,3). Consequently, oligonucleotides incorporating the derivative 1g bearing a terminal CC bond show a number of favorable properties: i) it is possible to activate them by labeling with reporter molecules employing the ,click' chemistry. ii) Space demanding residues introduced in the 7-position of the 7-deazapurine base does not interfere with duplex structure and stability (Table,8). iii) The ambiguous pairing character of the nucleobase makes them universal probes for numerous applications in oligonucleotide chemistry, molecular biology, and nanobiotechnology. [source] A 5,GHz quadrature relaxation oscillator with mixing for improved testability or compact front-end implementationINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CIRCUIT THEORY AND APPLICATIONS, Issue 4 2010Luis Bica Oliveira Abstract We demonstrate by measurements on a test circuit that a 5,GHz relaxation oscillator with accurate quadrature outputs and low phase-noise can be obtained, and that these favorable properties can be preserved while the mixing function is performed by this oscillator. This is useful either to measure the quadrature error at a low frequency, or to implement a low-intermediate frequency (IF) or zero-IF (homodyne) radio frequency front-end. ILs could also be used along with another ,green' technology, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), for a more effective separation of products from ILs. In addition to their environmentally-benign feature, ILs have other favorable properties over organic solvents used for extraction, such as adjustable hydrophobicity, polarity and selectivity. We show that it preserves some of the favorable properties of the classical quadratic models. Okarvi Abstract:, In an effort to develop a peptide-based radiopharmaceutical for the detection of breast cancer, we have prepared an analog of ,M2 peptide, modified to incorporate an N3S chelate system. Mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG)3 -derivatized ,M2 peptide was prepared by solid-phase synthesis and radiolabeled with 99mTc by an exchange method. In vitro cell-binding on human breast cancer cell lines, MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7, indicated the affinity and specificity of 99mTc-MAG3 - ,M2 toward breast cancer cells. Additionally, the radiolabeled peptide showed rapid internalization into human breast cancer cells. In vivo biodistribution in mice showed that the radiolabeled peptide cleared rapidly from the blood and most non-target tissues and was excreted significantly via the kidneys. Uptake of 99mTc-MAG3 - ,M2 in the tumor was moderate. The radiochemical and in vitro and in vivo characterization indicates that the radiolabeled peptide has certain favorable properties and it might be a useful radiopharmaceutical for the detection of breast cancer in vivo.
