Vector Hankel transform analysis of a tunable circular microstrip patch

Abstract In this paper, a rigorous analysis of the tunable circular microstrip patch is performed using a dyadic Green's function formulation. To make the theoretical formulation more general and hence valid for various antennas structures (not only limited to tunable microstrip patch); the dyadic Green's function is derived when the patch is assumed to be embedded in a multilayered dielectric substrate. A very efficient technique to derive the dyadic Green's function in the vector Hankel transform domain is proposed. Using the vector Hankel transform, the mixed boundary value problem is reduced to a set of vector dual integral equations. Galerkin's method is then applied to solve the integral equation where two sets of disk current expansions are used. One set is based on the complete set of orthogonal modes of the magnetic cavity, and the other consists of combinations of Chebyshev polynomials with weighting factors to incorporate the edge condition. Convergent results for these two sets of disk current expansions are obtained with a small number of basis functions. The calculated resonant frequencies and quality factors are compared with experimental data and shown to be in good agreement. Finally, numerical results for the air gap tuning effect on the resonant frequency and half-power bandwidth are also presented. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. [source]


The modeling and numerical analysis of wrinkled membranes

Abstract In this paper three fundamental issues regarding modeling and analysis of wrinkled membranes are addressed. First, a new membrane model with viable Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio is proposed, which physically characterizes stress relaxation phenomena in membrane wrinkling, and expresses taut, wrinkled and slack states of a membrane in a systematic manner. Second, a parametric variational principle is developed for the new membrane model. Third, by the variational principle, the original membrane problem is converted to a non-linear complementarity problem in mathematical programming. A parametric finite element discretization and a smoothing Newton method are then used for numerical solution. The proposed membrane model and numerical method are capable of delivering convergent results for membranes with a mixture of wrinkled and slack regions, without iteration of membrane stresses. The Role of Leader Morality in the Interaction Effect of Procedural Justice and Outcome Favorability

The present research explored the role of leader morality in the interaction effect of procedural justice and outcome favorability, and attempted to connect justice and morality construct in a new direction. Two studies in different settings and using different designs (a scenario experiment and a survey) yielded convergent results. When leader morality was high, the interaction effect of procedural justice and outcome favorability was significant, and fair procedures mitigated the negative effect of low outcome favorability. When leader morality was low, however, the interaction between procedural justice and outcome favorability was absent. [source]


Men's and women's reactions to fair and unfair treatment in relationship conflict

Evidence of gender differences in reactions to experienced fair and unfair treatment in relationship conflict was examined in 4 studies among dating, cohabiting, and married participants in The Netherlands. Using a critical incidents method and a scenario, this research provided convergent results suggesting that the relationship between fairness of treatment and affective feelings or relationship satisfaction is stronger for women than for men. This gender difference disappeared under conditions of high relationship commitment. Furthermore, men who identified strongly with their relationship showed stronger reactions to fair treatment than men who identified weakly with their relationships. Finally, the manipulation of relationship salience led to heightened sensitivity to fairness of treatment among men, but not among women. [source]
