CRYSTAL RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY, Issue 1 2007
R. Sathyalakshmi
Abstract L(+)Glutamic acid hydrochloride [HOOC (CH2)2CH(NH2) COOH·HCl], a monoamino dicarboxylic acid salt of L-Glutamic acid was synthesized and the synthesis was confirmed by FTIR analysis. Solubility of the material in water was determined. Pure and Thiourea doped L-Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystals were grown by low temperature solution growth using solvent evaporation technique. XRD, UV-Vis-NIR analyses were carried out for both pure and thiourea doped crystals. The crystals were qualitatively analyzed by EDAX analysis and the presence of thiourea was confirmed. The cell parameters of L-Glutamic acid hydrochloride have been determined as a = 5.151 Ć, b = 11.79 Ć, c = 13.35 Ć by X-ray diffraction analysis and it crystallizes in orthorhombic space group P212121. UV-Vis-NIR spectra analysis showed good optical transmission in the entire visible region for both pure and doped crystals. Micro hardness of both pure and doped crystals has been determined using Vickers micro hardness tester. The SHG efficiencies of both pure and doped crystals were determined using Kurtz powder test and pure L-Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystal was found to possess better efficiency than thiourea doped L-Glutamic acid hydrochloride crystals. GAT-1 acts to limit a tonic GABAA current in rat CA3 pyramidal neurons at birth

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF NEUROSCIENCE, Issue 3 2007
Sampsa T. Sipilä
Abstract Tonic activation of GABAA receptors takes place before the development of functional synapses in cortical structures. We studied whether inefficient GABA uptake might explain the presence of a tonic GABAA -mediated current (IGABA-A) in early postnatal hippocampal pyramidal neurons. The data show, however, that the tonic IGABA-A is enhanced by the specific blocker of GABA transporter-1 (GAT-1), NO-711 (1-[2-[[(Diphenylmethyleneimino]oxy]ethyl]-1,2,5,6-tetrahydro-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid hydrochloride), at birth in rat CA3 pyramidal neurons. NO-711 also prolonged the duration of GABA transients during endogenous hippocampal network events (known as giant depolarizing potentials) at postnatal day 0. The endogenous tonic IGABA-A was seen and it was enhanced by NO-711 in the presence of tetrodotoxin, which itself had only a minor effect on the holding current under control conditions. This indicates that the source of interstitial GABA is largely independent of action-potential activity. The tonic IGABA-A in neonatal CA3 pyramidal neurons was increased by zolpidem, indicating that at least a proportion of the underlying GABAA receptors contain ,2 and ,1,,3 subunits. The present data point to a significant role for GAT-1 in the control of the excitability of immature hippocampal neurons and networks. [source]

High-sensitive neural network ammonia sensor based on shear horizontal surface acoustic wave devices

JOURNAL OF CHEMOMETRICS, Issue 10 2008
Chi-Yen Shen
Abstract In this paper, a shear horizontal surface acoustic wave devices coated with L-glutamic acid hydrochloride were applied as ammonia sensors. This sensor has shown high sensitivity and fast responses to ppb-level ammonia. The frequency shift linearly increased as the ammonia concentration increased from 40 to 400,ppb in dry environment. In the humid environment, the frequency shift gradually decreased with ammonia concentration increasing. In order to precisely estimate the ammonia in humid environment, two different neural models, the conventional feedforward neural network and quantum neural network, were used as the identifier and their performances were reported and compared. ABSTRACT ,3 -Adrenoceptor is the predominant ,-adrenoceptor in adipocytes and has drawn much attention during the investigation for anti-obesity and antidiabetes therapeutics. Thirteen new compounds have been evaluated for their potencies and efficacies as ,3 -adrenoceptor agonists on human ,3 - adrenoceptor expressed in COS-7 and Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells using radio ligand binding assay and cyclic AMP (cAMP) accumulation assay. Phenoxypropanolamine derivatives, SWR-0334NA (([E)-[4-[5-[(3-phenoxy-2-hydroxypropyl)amino]-2-pentene,3-yl] phenoxy]acetic acid sodium salt), SWR-0335SA ((E)-[4-[5-[(3-phenoxy-2-hydroxypropyl)amino]-2-pentene,3-yl] phenoxy] acetic acid ethanedioic acid), SWR-0342SA (S-(Z)-[4-[[1-[2-[(2-hydroxy,3-phenoxypropyl)]amino]ethyl]-1-pro-penyl]phenoxy] acetic acid ethanedioic acid), SWR-0348SA-SITA ((E)-[4-[5-[(3-phenoxy-2-hydroxy-propyl)amino]-2-hexene,3-yl] phenoxy]acetic acid ethanedioic acid) and SWR-0361SA ((E)-N-methyl-[4-[5-[(3-phenoxy-2-hydroxypropyl)amino]-2-pentene,3-yl]phenoxy]acetoamide ethanedioic acid) showed higher agonistic activity for the ,3 -adrenoceptor. Among the compounds tested, SWR-0334NA exhibited full agonist activity (%Emax = 100.26) despite its lower binding affinity (pK1 = 6.11). Compounds SWR-0338SA((E)-[4-[5-[(2-phenyl-2-hydroxyethyl)amino]-2-pentene,3-yl]phenoxy]acetic acid ethanedioic acid), SWR-0339SA (S-(E)-[4-[5-[(3-phenoxy-2-hydroxypropyl)amino]-2-pentene,3-yl] phenoxy] acetic acid ethanedioic acid), SWR-0345HA ((E)-2-methyl,3-[4-[2-(2-phenyl-2-hydroxyethyl-amino)ethoxy] phenyl]-2-propenoic acid ethyl ester hydrochloride), SWR-0358SA ((E)-(2-methoxy-ethyl)-[4-[5-[(3-phenoxy-2-hydroxypropyl) amino]-2-pentene,3-yl]phenoxy]acetoamide ethanedioic acid) and SWR-0362SA ((E)-1-[[[4-[5-[(3-phenoxy-2-hydroxypropyl)amino]-2-pentene ,3-yl]phenoxy]-acetyl]carbonyl]piperidine ethanedioic acid) had moderate agonistic activity and were phenethylamine and phenoxypropanolamine derivatives. Compounds SWR-0065HA ([4-[2-[3-[[(3,4-dihydro-4-oxo-[1,2,4]-triazino(4,5-a)indol)-lyl]oxy]-2-hydroxypropylamino]ethoxy]phenyl]acetic acid methyl ester hydrochloride), SWR-0098NA ((E)-[4-[3-[(2-phenyl-2-hydroxyethyl)amino]-1-butenyl] phenoxy]-acetic acid sodium salt) and SWR-0302HA ([4-[[4-[2-(3-chlorophenoxy-2-hydroxypropyl)amino]-E-2-butenyl]oxy]phenoxy]acetic acid hydrochloride) had very low binding affinity towards ,3 -adreno-ceptors and they did not induce cAMP accumulation. We concluded that compounds SWR-0334NA, SWR-0335SA, SWR-0342SA, SWR-0348SA-SITA and SWR-0361SA were potential agonists of human ,3 - adrenoceptor. Further investigation on their selectivity towards ,3 -adrenoceptor could be useful for the exploration of the physiological properties of the ,3 -adrenoceptor. [source]

Inhibitors of biotin biosynthesis as potential herbicides: Part 2,

PEST MANAGEMENT SCIENCE (FORMERLY: PESTICIDE SCIENCE), Issue 10 2005
Tali Ashkenazi
Abstract Isosteres and analogues of 7-keto-8-aminopelargonic acid (KAPA) and 7,8-diaminopelargonic acid (DAPA), the vitamer intermediates involved in the biosynthetic pathway of biotin, possessing chain lengths of eight carbon atoms, were prepared and evaluated as potential herbicides. The most active compounds, 7-amino-octanoic acid hydrochloride and 7-allyloxy-6-oxo-octanoic acid, displayed Arabidopsis GR50 (concentration of the active compound that causes a 50% growth inhibition) values of 5 and 10 mg kg,1 respectively. The DAPA analog 6,7-diamino-octanoic acid dihydrochloride, when tested in the greenhouse against six weed species, displayed moderate activity against three species, being most active against foxtail millet.
