Aromatic and Benzylic C,H Bond Functionalization Upon Reaction between Nitriles and Perfluoroalkyl Sulfoxides

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, Issue 31 2009
Yohan Macé
Abstract We studied the thermal behavior of some intermediates formed by reaction of nitriles with perfluoroalkyl sulfoxides upon trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride activation. Bistriflate ketal 3, precursor of sulfilimine 1, may undergo a rearrangement to sulfanyl nitrile 5 after triflic acid elimination under thermal conditions. With p -tolyl trifluoromethyl sulfoxide, remote triflic acid elimination from intermediate 4 leads to benzamide 8 formation. These reactions involve, respectively, selective functionalization of the aromatic ortho C,H bond or the benzylic C,H bond para to the sulfoxide group. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Intramolecular Hydro- N -alkylation of Hydrazones and Oxime Ethers: Synthesis of Novel D -Secoestrone Isoquinuclidines via Domino 1,5-Hydride Shift/Cyclization

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, Issue 21 2009
Éva Frank
Abstract The direct transformation of a benzylic C(sp3),H bond into a C,N bond from steroidal hydrazones 10b, 10f,l and oxime ethers 28b,d under the action of a stoichiometric amount of Lewis acid is reported. The mechanism of functionalization to give novel types of isoquinuclidine derivatives 25b, 25f,l and 32b,d is assumed to involve an intramolecular domino 1,5-hydride transfer/cyclization sequence. Azomethine imines 23b, 23f,l and oxyiminium ions 29b,d are proposed as intermediates, which undergo 1,5-hydride shift to give the tertiary carbocation 24b, 24f,l or 31b,d. The nucleophilic addition of the hydrazine or hydroxylamine moiety to the benzylic C-9 carbon led to bridged azaestrone derivatives. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Ab initio and DFT calculations of benzaldoxime elimination kinetics in the gas phase

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF QUANTUM CHEMISTRY, Issue 10 2008
Jose R. Mora
Abstract The mechanism for the gas-phase molecular elimination kinetics of benzaldoxime was examined at MP2/6-31G, MP2/6-31G(d,p), B3LYP/6-31G, B3LYP/6-31G(d,p), MPW1PW91/6-31G, and MPW1PW91/6-31G(d,p) levels of theory. The products of elimination of this oxime are benzonitrile and water. Calculated thermodynamic and kinetic parameters estimated from B3LYP/6-31G was found to be in better agreement with the experimental values. Transition state structure is best described as a four-membered cyclic structure with good approximation to planarity. NBO charges analysis revealed a little greater polarization of the benzylic C,H,+ rather than N,OH,,. Bond indexes and synchronicity parameters are in agreement with a concerted semi-polar type of mechanism with benzylic CH bond breaking as determining step of the reaction. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
