Various Channels (various + channel)
Selected AbstractsThe Role of Migrant Remittances in Development: Evidence from Mediterranean CountriesINTERNATIONAL MIGRATION, Issue 1 2002Nicholas P. Glytsos Given the persistent problems in the balance of trade in LDCs, the limited effect of foreign aid, and the difficulties of borrowing, the often huge amounts of migrant remittances can substitute for the inadequacies of these forms of foreign exchange. As market flows of foreign exchange, remittances have complex positive and negative effects on development. In this paper, I deal with this role of migrant remittances in the theoretical framework of development economics, as related to the importance of foreign exchange as an indispensable factor of growth and structural change in LDCs. Various channels transmitting the impact of remittances on development are investigated based on the experience of countries from both sides of the Mediterranean basin. [source] Information, Selective Disclosure, and Analyst BehaviorFINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, Issue 1 2009Anchada Charoenrook This paper examines whether the prohibition of selective disclosures to equity research analysts mandated by Regulation FD alters the amount of information and the manner in which it is revealed to the market. We demonstrate that equity research analysts are more responsive to information contained in company-initiated disclosures after Reg FD, suggesting that regulation has affected the importance of various channels of communication. We also present evidence consistent with the notion that managers use earnings guidance as a substitute for selective disclosure following the passage of Reg FD. In recent years a more critical literature with a focus on the distributional and poverty impact of privatization has emerged. This article contributes to that literature in two ways. First, it presents a broad framework of empirical analysis of the relationship between privatization and poverty. Second, it applies this framework to the case of Sudan in as much as the existing data and information permit. The results do not lend much support for the arguments that privatization contributes to the efforts of poverty alleviation through various channels such as efficiency, employment creation and revenue generation for government. [source] Consumers' purchase intention of organic food in ChinaJOURNAL OF THE SCIENCE OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE, Issue 8 2010Shijiu Yin Abstract BACKGROUND: The global market for organic food has developed significantly in the past decade. The organic food industry in China is export oriented, with production growing rapidly, although the domestic market remains relatively small. This paper surveys 432 consumers from three cities in China, consequently establishing a logit model to analyse the main factors affecting consumers' choice for organic food. RESULTS: The result indicates that Chinese consumers' intent to purchase organic food is strongly affected by factors such as income, degree of trust in organic food, degree of acceptance of organic food price, and consumers' concern on self-health. This intent is only slightly affected by factors such as consumers' age, education level and concern about environmental protection. CONCLUSION: Based on the results, the following measures are recommended: reduce the cost of organic food through multiple channels to cut down the market price; establish and perfect the supervision system of organic food; and promote organic food through various channels. S. SongArticle first published online: 19 JAN 200 Abstract Recent molecular dynamics (MD) study of exciton relaxation showed that starting from a free Frenkel-type exciton in undistorted lattice, the maximum relaxation is reached within about 1,2 ps at temperatures of 10K,100K in NaBr, KBr and NaCl. We present here several results, which include: the quenching of the triplet exciton luminescence; the fast conversion to Frenkel pairs near the quenching temperature. We propose a tentative model, which identifies various channels of defect creation, namely the low temperature dynamic production, the very fast process near the quenching temperature, and the slow thermally activated creation of Frenkel defect pair.
