Forecasting domestic liquidity during a crisis: what works best?

JOURNAL OF FORECASTING, Issue 6 2007
Winston R. MooreArticle first published online: 3 JUL 200
Abstract The 1990s were a turbulent time for Latin American and Caribbean countries. During this period, the region suffered from no less than 16 banking crises. One the most important determinants of the severity of banking a crisis is commercial bank liquidity. Banking systems that are relatively liquid are better able to deal with the large deposit withdrawals which tend to accompany bank runs. This study provides an assessment of whether behavioural models, linear time series or nonlinear time series models are better able to account for liquidity dynamics during a crisis.,,Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. The Role of Trust in Channels of Strategic Communication for Building Civil Society

JOURNAL OF COMMUNICATION, Issue 4 2005
Carl H. Botan
In these turbulent times, development communication is a growing and important area of both academic research and practice. This article explores the role of strategic communication channels in the development of civil society in Bosnia. This case study reports the results of a survey that asked Bosnians about their levels of trust in government officials, alternative media, and state-controlled media outlets. The findings suggest that shortly after the war Bosnians had medium levels of trust in their communication channels, and when it comes to obtaining important information, it appears that alternative media were considered more trustworthy than either the state media or local government officials. Finally, political affiliation and ethnicity affect trust in communication channels in complex ways. [source]

Meta-abilities and outsourcing: an individual based conceptual framework

KNOWLEDGE AND PROCESS MANAGEMENT: THE JOURNAL OF CORPORATE TRANSFORMATION, Issue 1 2009
Jyoti Choudrie
Outsourcing is a strategy being considered appropriate to cope with the current turbulent times. In the information systems (IS) area, outsourcing has fastly become an essential part of an organization's IS strategy. By signing outsourcing agreements, firms expect to reduce their overall information technology (IT) costs, focus on their core competencies, and gain superior technical resources. This paper offers a conceptual model for the area of outsourcing, which is based primarily on the concept of meta-abilities. The principal argument offered by this paper is that organizations need to develop meta-abilities in order to facilitate the process of outsourcing. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Financial market spillovers in transition economies

THE ECONOMICS OF TRANSITION, Issue 1 2001
R. Gaston Gelos
This paper examines financial market comovements across European transition economies and compares their experience to that of other regions. Correlations in monthly indices of exchange market pressures can partly be explained by direct trade linkages, but not by measures of other fundamentals. Higher-frequency data during three crisis periods reveals the presence of structural breaks in the relationship between exchange-, but not stock markets. While the reaction of markets during the Asian and Czech crises is muted, the pattern of high-frequency spillovers during the Russian crisis looks very similar to that observed in other regions during turbulent times. With greater financial market integration, the financial markets of the more advanced transition economies can be expected to behave more and more like their Asian and Latin American counterparts.
