Selected AbstractsHeterogeneous traffic flow modelling for an arterial using grid based approachJOURNAL OF ADVANCED TRANSPORTATION, Issue 4 2008P. J. Gundaliya Abstract A grid based modelling approach akin to cellular automata (CA) is adopted for heterogeneous traffic flow simulation. The road space is divided into a grid of equally sized cells. Moreover, each vehicle type occupies one or more cell as per its size unlike CA traffic flow model where each vehicle is represented by a single cell. Model needs inputs such as vehicle size, its maximum speed, acceleration, deceleration, probability constants, and arrival pattern. The position and speed of the vehicles are assumed to be discrete. The speed of each vehicle changes according to its interactions with other vehicles, following some stochastic rules depending on the circumstances. The model is calibrated and validated using real data and VISSIM. The results indicate that grid based model can reasonably well simulate complex heterogeneous traffic as well as offers higher computational efficiency needed for real time application. [source] Object comparison using PDE-based wave metric on cellular neural networksINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CIRCUIT THEORY AND APPLICATIONS, Issue 4 2006István Szatmári Abstract The paper investigates PDE-based dynamic phenomena for comparing objects and introduces a spatio-temporal non-linear wave metric. This metric is capable of comparing both binary and grey-scale object pairs in a parallel way. Spatio-temporal waves are initialized and controlled to explore the quantitative properties of objects. In addition to spatial data, even ,hidden', time-related information is also extracted and used for evaluating differences and similarities. The detailed analysis of the proposed metric shows that this wave-based approach can outperform well-known metrics such as Hausdorff and Hamming metrics in selectivity and sensitivity. The approach in question can be efficiently implemented on massively parallel architectures, e.g. on Cellular Neural/Non-linear Networks (CNN), providing solutions either for real time applications. Hasan Abstract This article introduces the new Indian 2 m telescope which has been designed by MT Mechatronics in a detailed conceptual design study for the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore. We describe the background of the project and the science goals which shall be addressed with this telescope. NLST is a solar telescope with high optical throughput and will be equipped with an integrated Adaptive Optics system. It is optimized for a site with the kind of seeing and wind conditions as they are expected at a lake site in the Himalayan mountains. KGaA, Weinheim) [source] Advanced IMS client supporting secure signalingBELL LABS TECHNICAL JOURNAL, Issue 4 2008Ramana Isukapalli With recent advances in core and access networks and the availability of increased bandwidth and sophisticated devices for end users, there is an increased demand for client applications running on mobile devices, such as laptops and handheld devices, to support real time applications like Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and streaming video, apart from traditional applications like web browsing. This paper presents a prototype IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) client, which serves as a VoIP client to set up calls between Internet Protocol (IP) devices and interworks with circuit-switched networks to deliver calls to public switched telephone network (PSTN) phones. It implements supplementary services (including call waiting, call transfer, and call forwarding); supports multimedia ringing, short message service/multimedia messaging service (SMS/MMS), audio/video conferencing, and peer-to-peer video; and it can deliver a call to a user (as opposed to a device) by simultaneously ringing multiple devices registered by the user. Further, to address various security concerns, the client supports Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) digest authentication using Message Digest 5 (MD5) cryptographic function authentication and key agreement (AKA) and can create secure tunnels to the core network using IP security (IPsec). © 2008 Alcatel-Lucent.
