Strong Ultra-Broadband Near-Infrared Photoluminescence from Bismuth-Embedded Zeolites and Their Derivatives

ADVANCED MATERIALS, Issue 36 2009
Hong-Tao Sun
Zeolites with embedded bismuth compounds display strong, air-stable, long-lived, ultrabroadband, and tunable near-infrared photoluminescence (see picture). Bismuth ions not only act as luminescence-active centers, but also as blocks for selectively closing the "in,out windows" of water molecules. Bismuth active centers can be sealed in a low-vibrational environment by bismuth agglomerates even when the sample still contains a large amount of water. [source]

Development of New and Selective Trypanosoma cruzi trans-Sialidase Inhibitors from Sulfonamide Chalcones and Their Derivatives

CHEMBIOCHEM, Issue 15 2009
Jin Hyo Kim
Abstract A series of sulfonamide-containing hydroxylated chalcone (4,7) and quinolinone (8, 9) derivatives was synthesised and tested for inhibition of the trans-sialidase from Trypanosoma cruzi (TcTS). IC50 values for these inhibitors ranged from 0.6 to 7.3 ,M, with the dihydroxylated (catechol) derivatives being the tightest binders. Full kinetic analyses of inhibition were performed for these catechol derivatives, both for the transglycosylation reaction in the presence of lactose and for the hydrolysis reaction in its absence. Competitive inhibition was seen in each case with Ki values for 5, 7 and 9 of 2.0, 2.2 and 0.2 ,M, respectively, in the absence of lactose, and 4.6, 3.7 and 0.4 ,M in its presence. None of the compounds tested showed any significant inhibition of the human sialidase Neu2, at concentrations up to 200 ,M. [source]

Double Ring-Closing Metathesis Reaction of Nitrogen-Containing Tetraenes: Efficient Construction of Bicyclic Alkaloid Skeletons and Synthetic Application to Four Stereoisomers of Lupinine and Their Derivatives

CHEMISTRY - A EUROPEAN JOURNAL, Issue 13 2004
Shengming Ma Prof.
Abstract The double ring-closing metathesis reaction of nitrogen-containing tetraenes was studied. The selectivity of the fused/dumbbell-type products can be controlled by the electronic/steric effects of the substituents attached to the CC bonds and the s - cis/s - trans conformational ratios of the substrates. This methodology has also been successfully applied to the enantioselective synthesis of four stereoisomers of lupinine and their derivatives. [source]

1-Alkynylphosphines and Their Derivatives as Key Starting Materials in Creating New Phosphines

CHEMISTRY - AN ASIAN JOURNAL, Issue 3 2010
Azusa Kondoh
Abstract This Focus Review summarizes transformations of 1-alkynylphosphines and their derivatives directed toward the synthesis of new phosphines. Owing to the importance of organophosphines as ligands for transition metal catalysts, development of efficient methods for the synthesis of new phosphines is quite important. 1-Alkynylphosphines and their derivatives have been emerging as useful precursors for the creation of new phosphines. Chemical modifications of the carbon, carbon triple bonds, including nucleophilic addition and cycloaddition, lead to a wide range of new useful phosphines that are otherwise difficult to synthesize. Antitumor-Promoting Effects and Cytotoxic Activities of Dammar Resin Triterpenoids and Their Derivatives

CHEMISTRY & BIODIVERSITY, Issue 8 2010
Motohiko Ukiya
Abstract Nineteen known triterpenoids, 1,19, and one known sesquiterpenoid, 20, were isolated from dammar resin obtained from Shorea javanica K. & V. (Dipterocarpaceae). One of the acidic triterpenoids, dammarenolic acid (1), was converted to fourteen derivatives, namely, an alcohol, 21, an aldehyde, 22, and twelve L -amino acid conjugates, 23,34. Compounds 1,34 were examined for their inhibitory effects on the induction of Epstein,Barr virus early antigen (EBV-EA) by 12- O -tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA) in Raji cells, a known primary screening test for antitumor promoters. All of the compounds tested, except for compounds 4, 5, 12,14, 16, and 17, showed inhibitory effects against EBV-EA activation with potencies either comparable with or stronger than that of , -carotene, a known natural antitumor promoter. In addition, (20S)-20-hydroxy-3,4-secodammara-4(28),24-dien-3-al (22) exhibited inhibitory effects on skin tumor promotion in an in vivo two-stage mouse skin carcinogenesis test based on 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) as initiator, and with TPA as promoter. Furthermore, evaluation of the cytotoxic activities of compounds 1,34 against human cancer cell lines showed that reduction (i.e., 21 and 22) or conjugation with L -amino acids (i.e., 23,34) of compound 1 enhanced the cytotoxicity against human melanoma cell line CRL1579.
