Selected Abstracts10W CW broadband balanced limiter/LNA fabricated using MSAG MESFET processINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF RF AND MICROWAVE COMPUTER-AIDED ENGINEERING, Issue 2 2003Inder J. Bahl Abstract This article presents the design and test data for a 10W broadband balanced limiter/LNA MMIC fabricated using MSAG MESFET process. The limiter is based on Schottky diodes and the two-stage LNA is designed using high-performance MESFETs. The typical measured performance for the limiter/LNA circuit includes gain greater than 14 dB, NF less than 2.7 dB, and return loss better than 20 dB over the 8.5,11.5 GHz frequency range. The CW power handling for the packaged limiter/LNA circuits was greater than 10W. The packaged devices were also exposed to power levels greater than 10W, and no catastrophic failures were observed up to 18W. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An equivalent circuit model that accounts for the parasitic resonance due to the open stub inductance and the parasitic capacitance is developed and verified with the measured and simulated results. The fabricated transition exhibits a return loss better than about 10 dB and an insertion loss less than 1.9 dB up to 21.5 GHz. A good agreement is observed between measured and simulated results. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Serrano Abstract This article presents a miniaturized dual-mode narrow bandpass filter using an equilateral triangular patch resonator with an inverted T-shaped slot, which exhibited a size reduction of 37% compared with a single-mode equilateral triangular patch at the same frequency. Two- and four-pole dual-mode bandpass filters were designed and fabricated with this new resonator. Experimental results with the two-pole filter centred at 7.76 GHz showed a fractional bandwidth of 4.5%, return loss better than 17.8 dB, and minimum insertion loss of 2.2 dB. The results of the four-pole filter showed a fractional bandwidth of 3.5%, return loss better than 16 dB, minimum insertion loss of 2.6 dB, and a good second harmonic band rejection. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The CPW balun with a pair of symmetric quarter wavelength coupled lines is developed to increase at least 150% (1.5 times) bandwidth efficiency with a return loss better than the traditional planar coupled-line balun. The structure of the designed balun is simple, practical, and easy to fabricate. The measured results show fine agreements with the simulated data. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ramdane Abstract The proposed waveguide-to-CPW transition is uniplanar, in line with the waveguide, and without air-bridge. Composed of a fin-line taper and a circular phase-shifter, it presents in simulation an insertion loss and a return loss better than 0.63 and 16.8 dB between 27 and 31 GHz. Measurements of the back-to-back structure are presented. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Yu Abstract Careful design of via transitions intended for use in practical microwave applications is needed to realize the advantages of low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC), such as highly integrated buried passive circuits. Grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) to asymmetrical stripline vertical interconnects is optimized for thick LTCC substrate. The focus is to develop a vertical transition through thick substrate supporting deep embedded interconnects (DEI). The measured results demonstrate vertical transitions with good performance up to 20 GHz. Embedded LTCC bandpass filter with such vertical transition has been demonstrated with an insertion loss of 2.2 dB and return loss better than ,20 dB at 16.2 GHz. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A transformed doublet varactor load is analyzed and applied to a 3-dB quadrature coupler to exhibit large phase shift tuning range and low insertion loss with minimal variation. By using the derived design equations, the implemented CMOS reflection-type phase shifter demonstrates a continuous phase shift tuning range greater than 185°, an average insertion loss of 5.2 dB with ±0.4 dB variation, and return losses better than 13 dB in 9,11 GHz. The total chip size including I/O pads is 0.76 × 0.79 mm2. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
