Kinds of Reaction Catalyzed Selected AbstractsVery Fast Suzuki,Miyaura Reaction Catalyzed by Pd(OAc)2 under Aerobic Conditions at Room Temperature in EGME/H2OEUROPEAN JOURNAL OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, Issue 1 2009Alessandro Del Zotto Abstract The results of a ligand-free Pd(OAc)2 -catalyzed Suzuki,Miyaura C,C coupling performed at room temperature under aerobic conditions are presented. It was found that the use of an ethylene glycol monomethyl ether/H2O mixture as the solvent resulted in very rapid reactions of aryl bromides with arylboronic acids. As a matter of fact, under optimized conditions, some substrates were converted quantitatively in less than 1 min with exceptionally high TOF values. For example, the reaction between 4-methoxyphenylboronic acid and bromobenzene afforded 4-methoxybiphenyl in 30 s with TOF = 180000 h,1. Furthermore, the reaction tolerates a wide range of functional groups and can be successfully applied to heteroaryl bromides such as 2-bromopyridine and 5-bromopyrimidine. Interestingly, also an activated aryl chloride such as 1-chloro-4-nitrobenzene reacted quantitatively with phenylboronic acid at 373 K. (© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The use of typical Heck conditions afforded 3-arylpropionic esters, and the process can be directed to the synthesis of cinnamaldehydes under Cacchi conditions. These processes take place with rather low loading of the catalyst, which can be recovered by simple filtration and reused for at least five runs without competitive dehalogenation. This is the first time that a supported palladium complex has been reused under Cacchi conditions. ICP-OES analyses of the Pd content of the crude products in both transformations indicated lower leaching for the esters than for the aldehydes in the range up to 0.08 ppm for the esters and 0.8 ppm for the aldehydes.(© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Various quinoxalinones with diversity at three positions on their scaffold have been obained, and the method is valuable for the construction of this kind of molecules with biological and pharmaceutical activities. A variety of aldehydes were found to be suitable substrates for the reaction and the desired ,-amino-,,,-unsaturated esters were obtained in 90,99% yields with good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee) and complete regioselectivities. Moreover, the simple experimental procedures were air-tolerant and convenient. The present catalytic process provides the potential for large-scale syntheses of the chiral ,-amino-,,,-unsaturated esters. Its catalytic activity as a chiral Brønsted acid has been examined in the Mannich-type reaction of a ketene silyl acetal with aldimines as a model reaction. The corresponding ,-amino acid esters were obtained with high enantioselectivity. [source] Aqueous Asymmetric Mukaiyama Aldol Reaction Catalyzed by Chiral Gallium Lewis Acid with Trost-Type Semi-Crown LigandsADVANCED SYNTHESIS & CATALYSIS (PREVIOUSLY: JOURNAL FUER PRAKTISCHE CHEMIE), Issue 9 2005Hui-Jing Li Abstract The combination of Ga(OTf)3 with chiral semi-crown ligands (1a,e) generates highly effective chiral gallium Lewis acid catalysts for aqueous asymmetric aldol reactions of aromatic silyl enol ethers with aldehydes. A ligand-acceleration effect was observed. Water is essential for obtaining high diastereoselectivity and enantioselectivity. The p -phenyl substituent in aromatic silyl enol ether (2,h) plays an important role and increases the enantioselectivity up to 95% ee. Although aliphatic silyl enol ethers provided low enantioselectivities and silylketene acetal is easily hydrolyzed in aqueous alcohol, the aldol reactions of silylketene thioacetal (12) with aldehydes in the presence of gallium-Lewis acid catalysts give the ,-hydroxy thioester with reasonable yields and high diastereo- (up to 99,:,1) and enantioselectivities (up to 96% ee). [source] Study on an Aldol Reaction Catalyzed by Ti(IV)/Calix[n]arene ComplexesADVANCED SYNTHESIS & CATALYSIS (PREVIOUSLY: JOURNAL FUER PRAKTISCHE CHEMIE), Issue 6 2005Annunziata Soriente Abstract Ti(IV)/calixarene complexes, formed in situ or previously prepared with standard procedures, can be conveniently used as efficient catalysts in the aldol reaction of Chan's silyloxydiene with a range of aldehydes bearing either activating or deactivating groups, including aromatic, heteroaromatic and ,,,-unsaturated ones. The structure of both calixarene ligand and aldehyde, as well as the reaction conditions, strongly influence the efficiency of the reaction. NMR experiments in conjunction with the experimental results suggest that the structure of the catalytic species in the Ti(IV)/calixarene system prepared in situ is strongly dependent on the concentration and temperature adopted.
