Effectiveness of the Triple P Positive Parenting Program on Parenting: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Triple P is a parenting program intended to prevent and to provide treatment for severe behavioral, emotional, and developmental problems in children. The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the effectiveness of Triple P Level 4 interventions on parenting styles and parental competency. Level 4 is an intensive training program of 8 , 10 sessions for parents of children with more severe behavioral difficulties. The results indicated that the Triple P Level 4 interventions reduced dysfunctional parenting styles in parents and also improved parental competency. These effects were maintained well through time and appear to support the widespread adoption and implementation of Triple P Level 4 interventions that is taking place in an increasing number of countries around the world. Pilot training program for developing disaster nursing competencies among undergraduate students in China

Abstract As nurses constitute the largest group of health-care providers, their readiness to respond to disasters and to participate in preparedness and disaster recovery activities will be significant for making a community more resilient against disaster. Concern is raised regarding how to build the capacity of all nurses with a knowledge base and a minimum set of skills in responding to various disasters. Drawing on the ICN Framework of Disaster Nursing Competencies and Global Standards for the Initial Education of Professional Nurses and Midwives, a training program entitled "Introduction to Disaster Nursing" was developed. Four teaching methods including action learning, problem-based learning, skill training, and lecture were used to orchestrate a series of planned activities for helping students develop the required disaster nursing competencies in a 2-week intensive training program held in Sichuan China in July 2009. The pre- and post-tests which were given to assess the students' perceived level of competencies demonstrated a significant gain in relevant knowledge and skills constituting the required competencies upon completion of the program. In the program evaluation, most students indicated their willingness and capability in disaster relief work under supervision, and they were keen to advance their competencies in the field of disaster nursing. Q12; C59; O13 The Farmer Field School (FFS) is an intensive training program providing farmers with science-based knowledge and practices, including integrated pest management. Recently there has been intensive debate as to whether or not this kind of training has any significant impact. Most case studies argue that the impact, in terms of a farmer's ability to reduce the use of pesticides while increasing yields, is significant. However, panel data studies using household panel data sets for Indonesia have not been able to confirm that this is the case. The present paper uses panel data available from previous panel data studies and applies a new model specification to reevaluate whether or not the FFS induces better performances among farmers enrolled in the program and also among their neighbors, who are expected to receive some spillover knowledge from the FFS alumna. Effect of intensive training on heart rate variability in prepubertal swimmers

Abstract Background, In children, there is very limited evidence focusing on the beneficial effect of exercise training on heart rate variability (HRV) during childhood. Despite the fact that more and more children are engaged in intensive training programs, the question arises if such intensive training involves deleterious effects on the cardiac autonomic nervous system during childhood. Thus the aim of the present study was to compare HRV parameters in highly trained swimmer boys and untrained counterparts. Methods, Twenty prepubertal boys, aged 11,12 years old, took part in the study. The children were divided into 11 highly trained prepubertal swimmers (training sessions of 8,10 h weekly for at least 4 years) and 9 age-matched active boys. HRV analysis was performed on diurnal recordings in the frequency (short-term recordings 6 min the most ,vagal') and time (long-term recordings 4 h centred on the 6 min most ,vagal') domains. Results, No significant differences were obtained between groups for all frequency variables whatever the mode of expression (absolute in ms2, relative in Ln or %). All time-domain components were not significantly different in swimmers and untrained boys. Conclusions, The results of the present study demonstrate that participating intensively in swimming training does not induce in children changes in HRV indices. Neither time nor domain HRV variables were significantly different between untrained and highly trained prepubertal boys. Thus, intensive training in healthy children does not involve deleterious effects on HRV. [source]
