Broad Interpretation (broad + interpretation)
Selected AbstractsCHANGING CONCEPTIONS OF SUSTAINABILITY IN BARCELONA'S PUBLIC PARKS,GEOGRAPHICAL REVIEW, Issue 1 2009DAVID SAURÍ ABSTRACT. In this article we explore the relationships between public parks and a broad interpretation of sustainability, taking as a case study the city of Barcelona, Spain. Recent official discourses in Barcelona insist on sustainability as one of the fundamental assets of public parks. Yet whether these urban artifacts actually contribute to sustainability objectives in environmental and social terms remains to be examined. We compare two public parks in Barcelona-the Parc Joan Miró (1983), and the Parc de Diagonal Mar (2002),and show how, in the former, the integration of the social, political, and environmental dimensions of sustainability was largely achieved, whereas in the latter, only the environmental dimension appears to have been considered. Narrowband and wideband measurements allow a broad interpretation of the LMS channels. Channel models and its parameters have been derived from the measured data as well. Furthermore, the impact of the LMS channel on the communication service is investigated and possible countermeasures are discussed. Link margins, power control schemes and satellite diversity can compensate the fading on the transmission links. The benefit of adaptive receivers and the dependence on the signal bandwidth are investigated, too. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Welch Using a sample of sixty-six cases dealing with defeatist statements tried before the People's Court, this article argues that these subversion cases clearly demonstrate the politicisation of the judicial process under the Nazi regime. The application of an extraordinarily broad interpretation of the term "public", virtually obliterating any notion of a private sphere , as well as a draconian use of the death penalty (two-thirds of defendants were sentenced to death and executed) both provide evidence that the prosecution of subversion can be understood as one component of a broader effort by the Hitler regime to achieve total control over society in pursuit of total war. Whereas broad interpretations of Keynes's work may have a role to play for future economics the main argument of this paper is to propose a return to the theoretical foundations of a truly Keynesian economics. In the main economic writings of Keynes it is possible to discern a body of beliefs, which is (a) consistent in its own terms and (b) susceptible of being used in the explanation of different realities. That body of beliefs is grounded on (1) the principle of non-neutrality of choice and (2) the principle of non-neutrality of money. Both principles were essential parts of the core of Keynes's A Treatise on Money (1930) and The General Theory (1936), and should be used as foundation for future development of Keynesian economics at the methodological as well as at the theoretical level.
